Art poster by Watanabe Seitei. Illustrations from the Japanese magazine Bijutsu Sekai (1893–1896). A beautiful collection of woodblock designs by the prominent kachō-ga artist Watanabe Seitei. He was one of the first Japanese painters to visit Europe, participating in the 1878 international exhibition, where he was awarded a medal. In this collection we present unique, vivid patterns inspired by East Asian nature. Watanabe Shōtei, also known as Watanabe Seitei, was a Nihonga painter and one of the first Japanese artists to visit Europe. He participated in the international exhibition in Paris in 1878 and received a medal. Shōtei combined Western realism with the delicate colours and washes of the Kikuchi Yōsai school and introduced a new approach to kachōga, or bird-and-flower painting.
