Edvard Weie (1879-1943) is one of the central figures in Danish modernism. In the 1920s he was preoccupied with the "sound of colour" - a theory of a direct connection between colour tones and music. "Kvindelig Model" from 1923 belongs to the period when Weie worked intensively with the expressive power of colour, and the model is treated as a study in colour rather than as a traditional figurative portrait.
