Det Danske Luftfartselskab was established as an independent limited company on 29 October 1918 and was therefore the first civil airline in Denmark - and one of the very first in the world. Its first route ran from Copenhagen via Malmö to Warnemünde in Germany, opening a direct air connection to the continent. The company existed until 1946, when it merged with Norwegian and Swedish airlines to form the new joint Scandinavian SAS.
