Ba Ta Clan 1923 Léon Heyman

The 1923 Ba-Ta-Clan poster is a captivating art poster created by the French artist Léon Heymann. The poster advertises the legendary Parisian theatre Ba-Ta-Clan, which at the time was known for colourful and controversial performances. The image presents a dramatic and passionate scene in which a woman with reddish hair is caught in an intimate and intense embrace with another person. Her hair is painted in a vivid red, creating a dramatic contrast with the darker black and white tones of the rest of the composition. The faces are rendered with clear, expressive lines, intensifying the passionate mood of the scene. The poster places strong emphasis on contrast. The soft pink background creates a calm yet dramatic atmosphere, while the bold black lines and bright red hair give an immediate sense of intensity and passion. The words "Je te veux!" (I want you!) appear at the bottom of the poster and reinforce the feeling of longing and desire. At the top, "BA-TA-CLAN" is written in large black letters that break through the quieter background. Combined with Heymann's characteristic style, often graphic and powerful, this creates a dynamic and compelling visual experience. The dominant colours are red, black, white and pink. The colour palette supports the dramatic feeling of intensity and passion. Léon Heymann's artwork is an excellent example of the graphic art popular in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century.
